How to change brake pads on 2004 chevy avalanch?

Jessy, I'm going to save you some trouble by suggesting some tools you'll need to remove the brake calipers. Go to Sears and buy a set of shallow-well metric 1/2%26quot; sockets. It's easiest if you have a 16%26quot; 1/2 ratchet or a 16%26quot; 1/2 drive breaker bar. Walk over to the wood working counter and pick up a Jorgenson slider clamp to compress the caliper pistons.

Go to any auto-parts store (NAPA) and pick up a tube of synthetic brake grease to lubricate the caliper slider pins. Don't go cheap with the brake pads. Pick up AC-Delco, Bendix CQ.3 or EBC Red ceramic brake pads.

Jack the truck up after loosening the lug nuts, one wheel at a time. Turn the steering wheel to expose as much of the brake caliper as possible. Remove the metric caliper bolts. Compress the caliper piston by bridging the rear of the caliper and squeeze through the opening on the street side brake pad. The caliper will pull straight up off the wheel spindle. Grease the slider pins. Replace the brake pads and re-install.

Forget investing in any 3/8 tools for this job as they don't don't have the necessary leverage and don't hack the mission.
