They work by breaking a wire in a little plastic sensor that is integral with the brake pads. Two opetions, if that is the case. Get the right brake pads, or take the wires and butt connect them to get the light to go out.

Does anyone know what sized allen wrench is needed to change the brake pads in a 1998 BMW 328i?

Even better, here is the entire procedure:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarti

The caliper guide bolt is a 7mm hex head (Allen) bolt.

Note there are other hex head bolts used on other brake parts.Does anyone know what sized allen wrench is needed to change the brake pads in a 1998 BMW 328i?most likely, being a european car it will be metric. you can go to any auto parts store and get a set of allen wrenches cheap. they might even be able to tell you which size.

Need to know how to change brake pads for a 2003 dodge neon srt 4?

buy a manual, they are cheap and have good information geared towards your vehicle, describes very well how to do most things yourself, especially easier things like pads/rotors. or search online for forums on how to replace pads.Need to know how to change brake pads for a 2003 dodge neon srt 4?I would imagine the same way you do for mostly any other car.. remove the wheels.. remove the calipers, compress the pistons back into the caliper (C clamp will do this in most cases) and reassemble with new pads.

  • Is it a more diffcult to change front brake pads on a car with abs brakes?

no its not difficult to change front brake pads on a car with absIs it a more diffcult to change front brake pads on a car with abs brakes?my man says no. abs is on the booster and the booster has nothing to do with the brake calibers. they all compress the same wayIs it a more diffcult to change front brake pads on a car with abs brakes?no not at all. as long as you do not have to change the wheel bearing, the abs as nothing to do with changing the pads.Is it a more diffcult to change front brake pads on a car with abs brakes?on some vehicles if you dont break the bleader valve loose and put a clamp on the rubber break line you will push fluid back up through the abs pump and ruin it, that will be an expensive problemIs it a more diffcult to change front brake pads on a car with abs brakes? It is not more difficult, but you MUST open the bleeder and then slowly and steadily compress the piston back into the piston{use a shallow pan to catch the fluid,do not let it get on painted surfaces}as soon as the piston is seated, tighten the bleeder. If you force fluid back through the antilock unit it will damage the valves inside. An exspensive repair because they cannot be purchased aftermarket.Dealer only!

With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?

    http://videos.howstuffworks.com/discovery-turbo/33715-turbo-changing-brake-pads-video.htm

This video shows how to change brake pads, but here's my question. My dad knows how to change them, but he's afraid to do it with cars with ABS systems on them, fearing he'd somehow ruin it. Is there any difference? If so, could you link me to a video, or just tell me?With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?Remember to have your brake fluid changed every 2-3 years. Other than that, the pads are pretty much the same. Uswe ONLY the genuine brake fluid for your particular car found at your dealership. NEVER mix different brands of brake fluid together. Disaster follows, on down the road! With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?Depends on what kind of vehicle we're talking about. Early automotive applications of ABS would have a reserve pressure. That would be the ABS accumulator. Such accumulators are designed to hold a high PSi in the system. Red flag's up here. Follow all warnings and recommendations by the vehicle manufacturer. Especially when performing brake work.

Best wishes and stay safe. With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?Explain to your dad that the ABS system is a sensor and ring attached to the hub - it has no bearing on the actual calipers and brake pads - which are generally the same parts on any specific vehicle whether the vehicle has ABS or not. With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?abs systems have a sensor usually located somewhere on the axle or on the spindle /mounting area. usually has a single wire attached to it. as long as you do not damage this or bend it etc. the procedure for changing pads is the same. With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?No difference. The calipers themselves don't have any ABS components in them.

Changing some wheel discs might affect the wheel speed sensors, but even these are quite simple. With ABS systems on most cars, how does it affect the changing of brake pads?It doesn't look any different. You will see the sensor, but it is inboard from where the pads are.

How much would changing brake pads and brake lines cost?

Any quick estimate on what it would cost me? I'm purchasing a 1989 Celica and the owner said it needed new brake pads and brake lines. How much would changing brake pads and brake lines cost?Pads should be relatively inexpensive, $30 max (for economy grade) and I would replace rotors too, about $25 a piece. (for DOMESTIC cars; from your autoparts store, not a brake shop) Labor is probably going to be little over an hour.

Brake lines on the other hand are custom for every car and usually considered a %26quot;straight time%26quot; job, meaning that if the mechanic runs into problems and it takes 4 hours to do, you're going to pay 4 hours labor. Don't forget bleeding air from brake lines takes time too. I would suggest getting a quote from a shop before you buy it.

Murphy's law says that if you fix just one brake line today, the others will start leaking next week. I recommend changing all your lines at once.

Personally, unless you're totally in love with that car, or it's real cheap, stay away from it. It's gonna end up costing you a pile of $$.

How do you change the brake pads on a 2003 Yukon XL?

If you're bound and determined to fix it yourself, purchase a repair manual ( Chilton's automotive manual )at your parts house

Cost of the manual between $30 to $100

cost of good brake pads $30 to $80

    brake fluid $ 7

seal glide for calipers $ 7

    proper tools $30

machining rotors at parts house $20

    gasoline to get parts $10

Your labor $14.30 to $28.60 cost of your labor 2 to 4 hours at minimum wage $7.15

    Total minimum cost $148.30

Have you checked the thickness of the rotors to see if they can be used, that they are not too thin? Do you know how to properly compress the calipers without ruining the ABS system? ( New ABS system $2000 ) Do you know how to bleed the break system correctly? Do you know how to properly lubricated the calipers slides? You know enough not to use gasoline to clean the parts with?(Medical burn unit $50,000 plus) Do you know how to properly jack up and support the vehicle so it does not drop on you? (One cast plus six weeks of healing)

Do you really want to to drive a car that you fixed without knowing all this? (Not killing your wife and children, priceless)

Can anyone explain how to change brake pads for a Hyundai Elantra 02'?

Very easy. Buy a caliper compressor, like $10 at pep boys.

Take off wheels, unbolt calipers, slide up. Do not remove brake lines. Slide out old pads. Use caliper compressor to compressor the piston in the caliper. Slide in new pads. Bolt caliper back onto rotor. Make sure you pump brakes a couple times to restore pressure.

Done. Can anyone explain how to change brake pads for a Hyundai Elantra 02'?Please go visit your local auto parts store and get the manual for your Elantra. The 2001 manual should be very close.

How hard is it to change brake pads in a taurus and do I really need all those tools or just a few basic ones

IF you are patient, you don't even need the c-clamp.

I use 2 large flatblade screwdrivers and apply pressure to force the old pads away from the rotor before I remove them. I go nice and slow, and usually get the caliper piston fully recessed by the application of leverage on the old pad forcing them away from the rotor.

How hard is it to change brake pads in a taurus and do I really need all those tools or just a few basic onesvery easy and only a couple of tools neededHow hard is it to change brake pads in a taurus and do I really need all those tools or just a few basic onesthis is a VERY simple job and you only need a few tools:

A socket set, a pair of pliers and a %26quot;C%26quot; clamp to force the piston in the caliper back to allow room for the new pads.

If the old pads have gone through to the backing plate and are %26quot;grinding%26quot; on the disc, you may want to take the discs down to a shop to be re-surfaced.

Is it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?

    something to your disc-brake.

See about 6 months ago I got my brake-pads changed and put new ones in by a friend who is a mechanic at a dealership.

When i take my car to firestone today to do an oil-change, the mechanic tells me the guy who did my brake pads is an idiot. And that you're supposed to %26quot;cut%26quot; the disc-brakes everytime you change the pads, that anyone can simply change the pad by reading the manual.

Is this true, or does he want me to pay him for something that is unecessary, I did notice the front-right disc was scratched, while the other ones looked neat.Is it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?I think it's great that the guy at the oil change place looked your car over for other possible problems. That is one of the reasons to get your car service regularly. But he needs to keep his opinions to himself as far as who did it before and how they did it.

The guy at firestone has just had it drilled into his head that it is true. I have changed brake pads for the last 35+ years and I may have had the rotors turned only 2 or 3 times. Once in a while, if the rotors are glazed real bad, you can just take some sand paper and ruff them up. Other than that, you only need to %26quot;cut%26quot; or turn the rotors if the brake pad wore down to metal and cut into the rotor. It is NOT necessary every time you change the pads.

Hope this helps and good luckIs it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?Hi, You say you get an oil change and they look at your brake pads. Was this with your approval? Anyway usually when you do disc brakes you take a cut off the rotors to make sure every thing is true, as rotor to pads.Ask the person who did the brake job if he turned the rotors. God LuckIs it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?I think he meant you should turn the rotors, that is, machine them back to a smooth surface using a lathe. This is a good idea, but definitely not necessary. If your rotors are not gouged, and there is no run out (wobble) then the new pads will quickly wear to fit the contour of the rotor surface. No resurfacing is necessary. Is it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?You dont have to ever, but if the rotors are realy eaten up you should have them turned if your friend is a mechanic he would have told you that they need turning dont pay some crook 150.00 to turn them have your friend to take them off take to autozone they will turn them for you.Is it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?You have slider pins that need to be regressed, or your pads will wear unevenly. The calipers can be compressed back in in order to place it back on the rotor. Not too hard of a job you can do yourself if you want to save money. Is it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?well it depends on you. if you want to fix them the right way. he was just telling you. you are the owner of the car. you decide what and where to get them done. the only thing that is going to happen. is your pads are not going to last longer. Is it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?1 if rotors are good they DON'T need turning

2 old days rotors were thick and easy to %26quot;turn%26quot; machine

3 todays rotors are thin.and when turned get thinner then warp,,,.and because 1/2 the cost is labor i just put nice new ones on when neededIs it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?there just trying to get your moneyIs it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?This is a tough question to answer. If when you apply the brakes, there is no vibration, then everything should be OK. If you just change the pads, and the rotors are scuffed up by the old pads, the new ones will take on the shape of the rotors deformities. It is normal to cut the rotors when you replace the pads, but many cars today are engineered so preThaiely that when it is time to change the pads, the rotors have automatically worn out with them. In other words, to save weight on the car, the rotors when new are very thin and are designed to be disposed of when the pads are replaced. Many Asian cars are like this. It also makes it easier, in a way, since the old rotor turning machine is no longer required to do a brake job. Most American car brakes will have rotors that last for 2 pad changes. It all depends upon the car, and it's engineering features. If the rotor is too thin, then the caliper pistons will extend too far and cause problems with leaking. Goodluck!!Is it true that when you change your brake-pads you have to?What he is referring to is lathing the brake disc (cutting the disc). After a disc has been on a vehicle for a long time the metal is worn away by the brake pads from braking. This creates a ridge of uneven wear on the outside and inside of the disc, and can cause improper braking performance if new pads are installed without the brake being lathed. The disc will be placed in a brake lathe and the uneven parts cut off to make the disc even again.

If your discs were very worn and uneven they should have been machined. Have the mechanic from the dealership show you what is wrong with the brake discs- you should be able to see the uneven surface of the disc if is it present.

More then likely, you will be able to change the brake pads and not require the rotors to be machined or replaced. Once you have the wheels off, thoroughly inspect the rotors. Look for heat cracks in the metal, deep gouges (should be smooth surface), or severe rusting. If you have a brake pulsation, you may have warped rotors... and require replacement.

Do I really need to take my car to a shop to have the brake pads changed?

My husband has received a quote by a repair shop to replace the brake pads, plus the calipers and possibly rotating the disks, if necessary...of $250. I've changed my own brake pads before at a significantly less cost. I'm wondering, is it worth paying that much? The brakes are in good condition, I have a chevy malibu 2005. Should I just change them on my own?Do I really need to take my car to a shop to have the brake pads changed? On most modern cars, changing brake pads involves removing two bolts per caliper, swinging it out of the way, and replacing old pads with new.

Before you can put the caliper back over new pads, the piston needs to be pushed back in.

Assuming that pad replacement is all you need, you should just do it yourself.

Buy a Haynes manual for your car, you might need to get a tool to push the piston in, but it will be cheaper than the garage.

Read the whole procedure before you begin, make sure you have everything you need on hand, and save $200.

I bought a 2005 suzuki s40 bouelvard and I was wondering if I should change brake pads?

I dont really know much about brake or brake pads but if they need changed I would like to do it. The front brake squeaks a little when I hit the front and I dont know if thats supposed to happen or if the pads need changed. I dont know how to tell if the pads are worn or not and I dont know how to get the caliper off either. Any help would be appreciated.I bought a 2005 suzuki s40 bouelvard and I was wondering if I should change brake pads?Brake pads are manufactured with a groove in the middle of that material that serves as a wear indicator. If you look in the side of the caliper, you should see this groove. If it is not there, then the pads are worn and need to be replaced. Also, there is a metal tab attached to the end of the backing plate on the pad assembly. When the pads wear down, this tab will contact the rotor and make a sound much like fingernails across a chalkboard. if you hear this noise, then that should also tell you new brake pads are in order. And one more thing, when you do the pads, inspect the condition of the rotors. The surface that the pad contacts on the rotor should be smooth and shiny. If you see gouges, grooves, or roughness in the rotor, the rotor might have to be replaced also. You do not want to cut corners when servicing brakes. Bad brakes on a car makes it dangerous and even life threatening so make sure your brakes are as good as you can get em.

They are a wealth of information for the price you pay. But if you want a short description on disc brakes here you go. If disc looks shiny or has grooves you need to have it machined. You need the manual for disc removal. If disc is in good shape, remove pads. Then slowly compress the pistons with a clamp or other tool. Install new pads and check fluid level. That's the short of it. Buy the manual, well worth it.

How do you change the front brake pads, rotors and calipers on a 1990 Ford Thunderbird?

Remove rotor. I would get %26quot;loaded%26quot; calipers with a good warranty (make sure they come with premium pads), purchase premium rotors, not the economy cheap ones, clean the new rotors with cleaner, to remove oils and dirt, install rotors, then caliper mounting bracket to knuckle, then mount the pads and caliper . If you have screw on hose ends, screw the hoses on and use a wrench to snug the hose before mounting caliper, don'tlet caliper dangle from hose, then finish tightening once caliper is mounted..(make sure it is snug prior to caliper installation or you may twist the hose). If it is a banjo fitting, make sure the washers are on either side of the fitting when bolt is inserted, and you can put it on before or after caliper is mounted, whatever is easier. Then, bleed the hydrolics and calipers. Don't let the master cylinder to suck in air. top off reservoir and eye it while bleeding.

After changing brake pads, the car brakes seem to be activated all the time?

I changed front and rear disc brake pads on my 1998 GMC jimmy today. I took the car out for a spin, and it stops fine. The problem is that the brakes seem to be engaging the calipers all of the time, and the enging really has to work to keep the car moving. What have I done wrong? After changing brake pads, the car brakes seem to be activated all the time?Just as a guess I would say that one of the brake calipers is not releasing and causing the brakes to bind. You have installed the calipers without proper lubrication and the calipers are stuck, thus not able to fully release the brakes. You have adjusted the park brake improperly so as to have it on all the time. I suggest you drive it and feel all 4 wheels to see which one is getting hot and these are where you have done something wrong. You can usually smell the brakes that are burning hot. Then take them apart and check for interference fits and/or binding. After changing brake pads, the car brakes seem to be activated all the time?the mecanic that did the job did not bleed the brakes right and there is air on the brake lines that is why you are having problemsAfter changing brake pads, the car brakes seem to be activated all the time? There could be rust on the calliper slides that is keeping them from opening up all the way. No big deal on most newer cars this is only 2 bolts and a clip. How long does it take to change the front brake pads on a front wheel drive car?it depends on the car, assuming you know a bit about it 1/2 to a full hour. In most cases it is fairly easy. How long does it take to change the front brake pads on a front wheel drive car?For the typical back yard mechanic like me, you've got extra time to jack up the wheels and put jack stands under the frame for safety. Then you need the right wrench to remove the caliper bolts which may require a breaker bar to get good leverage on the bolt in many cases. The front caliper pistons can be pushed in with a big C clamp, but rear calipers often need a special tool to turn the caliper back in with. Taking care to get the new pads into the caliper like the old pads you took out and remounting the caliper ends up taking about 3 hours for me and that doesn't count going to get the new pads or cleaning up the tools etc. Rear drum brakes would take longer even if you've done them before (about double the time for me). Of course you may need to take your rotors in to be machined or buy new rotors and install them in some cases.

  • Going on a cross country trip, need my brake pads changed, is it safe to do it myself, never done it?

I've never changed brake pads before and I'm not particularly car savvy, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Is it that easy or hard? Is it safe to do it myself for the first time with a 2600 mile trip? ThanksGoing on a cross country trip, need my brake pads changed, is it safe to do it myself, never done it?yeah, just don't open the hydraulic lines. Leave your old pad in the caliper on the side where the piston is and use a c clamp to push the piston back in. This will give you clearance to fit your new pads over the rotor. Do one side at a time and make sure you use disc brake quiet all over the back of the pads. Happy wrenching....Going on a cross country trip, need my brake pads changed, is it safe to do it myself, never done it?I don't know where you live. I recently had that done on my Toyota and it wasn't very expensive.

If I was taking a trip that far and had no experience working on cars, I wouldn't do any part of a brake job myself. If you do one little thing wrong and your 100 miles from home, or anywhere between your home and final destination, and suddenly something goes wrong due to your having done your own brake job, it could be very expensive to have repaired, and or very dangerous for you. Not worth the money you would save. Pay for professionals to do the job for you, and enjoy your trip. Go to Farm and Fleet, if you have one near you, or WalMart, or Midas. Midas is the most expensive. Good luck had have a fun trip.Going on a cross country trip, need my brake pads changed, is it safe to do it myself, never done it?No. If you have never done it, have it done. You are going to far to mess with your brakes and not know what you're doing. Your life is worth it.

How to change brake pads on 2004 cavalier step by step?

Siphon 2/3 of the brake fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir.

Remove the tire and wheel assembly.

Compress the caliper piston back into the caliper bore using a large pair of pliers, C-clamp or special caliper piston retracting tool.

Remove the caliper mounting bolts and sleeves.

Remove the caliper from the steering knuckle without disconnecting the brake hose. Do not allow the caliper to hang from the brake hose. Support the caliper with a piece of wire.

Remove the outboard pad by pushing in on the outside edge of the pad to release the mounting dowel from the hole in the caliper. When both dowels are unseated, push the pad out the bottom of the caliper.

Remove the inboard pad from the caliper by pulling it out of the caliper.

    To install:

Inspect the caliper for any signs of leakage. If the caliper is leaking, new brake pads will be damaged. Also inspect the condition of the caliper support for rust and corrosion which will hinder the travel on the caliper.

Inspect the caliper mounting hardware. New bolts are usually recommended. Clean all parts well. Lubricate the mounting bushings and sleeves with silicone grease as required.

Install the inboard pad in the caliper so the spring clip on the pad back engages in the caliper piston.

Install the outboard pad over the caliper end until the mounting dowels snap into the mounting holes in the caliper.

Install the caliper over the rotor onto the steering knuckle.

Install the mounting bolts and sleeves and torque to 38 ft. lbs. (51 Nm).

Install the tire and wheel assembly.

Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the pads against the rotor before attempting to move the vehicle.

Check the master cylinder level and add fluid as necessary. How to change brake pads on 2004 cavalier step by step?Jack up car, block rear wheels, remove front wheels, remove two caliper bolts, lubricate the caliper sliders with synthetic grease, remove pads, remove rotors and replace or resurface, put rotors back on, spray down back of pads with anti squeak, open bleeder and compress piston, close bleeder, install pads in caliper, bolt caliper back on, put wheel on, torque lug nuts to factory specs, let jack down, remove blocks, pump brake pedal, check fluid level afterwards, then test drive. How to change brake pads on 2004 cavalier step by step?First, have a can of P.B. laster handy. Get a couple of shop rags, some brake cleaner spray and your tools out(you'll need metric ones and a good breaker bar too). Jack the car up by the frame. Put the transmission into either Park(auto), or into first gear and pull the brake lever up. Take the wheel/s off. The tricky part is this: Getting the front brake caliper to go BACK into the cylinder. Use either a straight screw driver(before you take the rotor/disc off that is) OR a caliper C-clamp tool(after you've removed the rotor) . The front pads are held in place with a small clip. Pull them off. Replace with the new ones and re-install the rotor and wheel/s. You will need to apply some anti sieze compund to the caliper bolts(they're the ones that are the torx head type) for next time. Use a wire brush on them if they're rusted. The back wheels are different. They're drums. Pull the drums off. Take a flat screw-driver and carefully turn the little knob-like cylinder at the bottom of the drum and get the shoes to move as close together as possible. Using either a specialty tool from a parts store or a pair of good needle nose pliers, carefully pull the spring off the bottom of the shoes. Reverse the order(don't touch the knobby thing) for instalation. Bleed the whole brake system. If in doubt, get a Haynes manual. Your library SHOULD have them. It's a J-Body type car by the way.How to change brake pads on 2004 cavalier step by step? There are a number of sites with this information. Also if you buy a good replacement set there will be instructions included. and you can get a Chilton's manual at a library that will show you.

How to change brake pads on a 1986 honda accord?

First, you need to remove the tire. The brakes should be held onto the rotor by two bolts. Remove the two bolts(they are on found behind the brakes), and slide the whole unit off of the rotor. Pull the old pads off, and put the new ones in. If you have trouble sliding unit back on the rotor, open the brake fluid cap under the hood, and push the caliper back to give you room to slide the unit on the rotor. Tighten the bolts on the back of the pads, and you are good to go. It sounds difficult, but once you work on it, you'll see how easy it is.

I've not done this on a Merc, but have on the front of a vectra. It is an easy job - if you have the right tools handy and if you have axle stands. I had to buy a special size and shape allen key for not much. Axle stands are not expensive - about 20 mins of a mechanics time!

Note - front discs are easy, rear are probably not. Rear disks usually incorporate the hand brake which complicates things enormously.

Get yourself a Haynes manual, read the front disk procedure and do it if you feel confident. You can always do the fronts yourself and get a garage to do the rear. If you do it yourself and get it wrong it really could turn into a very bad day and it might just be me coming the other wayHow hard is it to change brake discs and pads on my car? It's pretty straightforward mate. Get yourself to your local motor factor place (motoserv seem pretty reasonable here in the UK) and get yourself a set of pads and rotors (disks), teh appropriate allen key to take the calipers off, and some axel stands if you don't have any - thease are vital. I nearly took all my fingers off trying to remove the brake drum on the front of an old Morris Minor when the jack just let go and the car crashed to the floor. It was one of those %26quot;jump up and down for 10 minutes shaking your hands%26quot; moments.

Fisrtly, let the tension off the front wheel nuts (don't undo them completely, just loosen them), jack up the car, ensuring you have chocked the back wheels to stop it rolling back and crushing you to death, remove ONE FRONT WHEEL AT A TIME. Get yourself comfy, reach round the back of the caliper (where the pads go) and undo the allen bolt(s) holding it in place. The caliper should slide off pretty easily (note: just remembered - undo the lid of the brake fluid resoviour first of all to release the pressure!). With the caliper off, you should see a screw holding the rotor in place - undo this and slide the rotor off the hub. If it resists, give it a whack or 2. Put some anti-seize compound (coppaslip) on the new rotor where it joins the hub. Replace the screw(s). Prise the caliper apart (this is why you have to undo the lid on the fluid res first) and remove the pads, one at a time. Replace with new pads, after applying a thin coating of coppaslip to the back side - this will prevent %26quot;brake squeal%26quot;. (If you are an enthusiastic driver, I would suggest some %26quot;Green Stuff%26quot; pads). Re-fit caliper exactly how you took it off, and tighten the allen bolts to the correct torque. Replace road wheel and repeat on the other side.

As for how often, it depends on driving style. On my Corolla and Subaru it was every 24000 miles for the rears. For my Miata they last 50000 miles or better. The Miata does not take as much braking to get through a turn faster then either of the others.

It may not be the diff. it could be the rear bearings either inboard or outboard.

Hi, I have a toyota corolla and I want to change the brake pads myself. Where can I buy the brake pads/tools?

I am new in US! Don't know of stores that sell auto parts. I live in LA, Pasadena. If you have a favorite mechanic, it would be appreciated as well.

ThanksHi, I have a toyota corolla and I want to change the brake pads myself. Where can I buy the brake pads/tools?We have found that the OEM (original equipment manufactures) Toyota brake pads, anti-rattle clips and anti-vibration shims last the longest and do the least amount of damage to the brake rotors. They're competitively priced with any brand of premium ceramic pads. You can buy these at any Toyota dealership parts counter.

I would suggest you go to the Toyota dealer, large book or any auto-parts store and buy a Chilton's or Haynes repair book for your specific car. In the book is a brake section complete with pictures how to change the brake pads..

You're going to need many expensive tools to do the work. Metric 1/2 drive sockets. A 12%26quot; or 16%26quot; ratchet. A hydraulic floor jack and jack stands. A two pound maul (hammer). Metric vernier calipers to measure the thickness of the brake rotors. A right angle electric grinder to brake the rust and glaze off the old brake rotors. A small can of Never Seize and a tube of synthetic brake grease for the slider pins.

As you can see it would be less expensive to have your local Toyota dealer do the work.Hi, I have a toyota corolla and I want to change the brake pads myself. Where can I buy the brake pads/tools?I dunno what kinda brakes Country Boy works on, because that seems a little overkill for some new pads. Measuring rotor thickness isn't absolutely crucial, you can usually tell when they're reaching a danger point.

    You will need, however,

A floor jack, jack stands, metric sockets, a socket wrench, and a C-clamp.

You would raise the vehicle, put a jackstand along the frame, remove the tire, unbolt the brake caliper from the mount (sometimes only the bottom bolt is necessary, then you swing it up), use the C-clamp to push the piston back in, and put new pads on. Anti-rattle isn't always necessary, I never use it and my brakes are silent.

Best thing I could recommend if you can't afford a dealership, post on your local Craigslist. I'm sure for $20 you can get a highschool student to come out and show you how it's done. Just say you have no tools and no knowledge and would like for them to show you how it's done.Hi, I have a toyota corolla and I want to change the brake pads myself. Where can I buy the brake pads/tools?toyota dealer can get the parts or you can get the parts at autozone, NAPA, pep boys, ETC.Hi, I have a toyota corolla and I want to change the brake pads myself. scroll to the bottom of the same page and you'll see a link to Part 2.How hard is it to change all four brake pads on a 2005 nissan altima?I personally think brakes are important enough that owners should not DIY unless they watch it done properly a couple times first. New brake pads may not take the shape of worn rotor surfaces then they squeel and make noise. A proper brake job includes replacing the friction parts resurfacing the rotors and drums then %26quot;bedding in%26quot; where the brake pads are brought up to temp repeted hard stops. Then allowed to cool down. Many times it is best to have a brake fluid change preformed before pushing the caliper pistons inward driving dirty fluid back to the antilock brake pump and master CYL. Also Nissan Key Value pads installed at the dealer come with a one year warranty. Good Luck

How do I change the brake pads on a 2003 Nissan Murano?

This can be a learn-as-you-go project. Obviously, jack up car and remove wheels. Remove the two bolts or pins that secure the caliper to the brake pad carrier. THe old pads can now be removed. You will have to figure out a way to press the brake pistons back into the caliper. This can usually be done with a C-clamp. Install new pads, and re-install caliper and bolts. If you go to the Nissan dealer, they will have a brake kit that includes return springs and other misc. brake parts. The good news here is that all parts will fit perfectly. Remember that this is the time to change your brake fluid. Read your owner's manual. Brake fluid only lasts for 2-3 years and then must be changed. Not doing so will cause premature wear to caliper seals and master cylinder. Use only genuine Nissan brake fluid. Mixing different brake fluids together can cause severe brake problems. If you need help, purchase a Haynes or Bentley repair manual. For improved braking you might install a set of Axxis pads from Australia. They will keep your wheels cleaner than the factory units. As long as the coffee and TV in the waiting room are fresh! But seriously, folks; in the old days there were some (usually English) cars and a French and a German car that had inboard brakes. Some axle dis-assembly required. These cars, such as Jaguar, featured a really smooth ride because when a wheel hit a bump there was a LOT less weight reacting - about 15 or 20 lbs less weight to control with shock absorber.

Also some French Citroen, German Audi. My 1967 Lotus Elan Coupe had inboard rear discs also. Rode like a baby carriage and cornered like on rails.

I wonder when the Grand Prix car designers will adopt inboard brakes. Tremendous technical problems with the immense heat and needed space These are the most highly developed cars on earth and reducing the unsprung weight would make them even faster. Is it true you have to take off wishbone to change brake pads on a hyundai coupe se?Yes, if you are not a trained Vehicle Mechanic, you could fumbled over the dismantling procedures, and dismantled the irrelevant parts instead

How to change my front brake pads on my 2005 vito 109cdi?

I'm going to attempt it on the weekend. 10 points for most simple instructions plus any tools that I may need. Cheers. How to change my front brake pads on my 2005 vito 109cdi?I did my Sprinter pads not very long ago, if they're anything like them - It is a Doddle!

Loosen wheel nuts, Jack up and axle stand. Wheel off.

Using a pry bar (sturdy screw driver) gently ease the pistons of the calliper back. Do not damage the disk doing this.

There are Allen bolts top and bottom of the calliper, slacken one, remove the other, swing out the calliper. Change pads, replace calliper and put in the bolt, tighten them both up. Wheel on, do other side.

Pump the pedal a few times before you move the vehicle.

I think the Allen heads are 7mm, it's not the usual size that is in a set. I had to get one special from Hal Fred's

It's a good idea to get a Haynes Manual. How to change my front brake pads on my 2005 vito 109cdi?If you are unsure about changing brake pads, I'd recommend you get a garage to do it (or a friend with some mechanical experience). Brakes are the last thing on a car that you want to get wrong.
