As a rule, mileage is not an issue.
If you spend most of your driving time on the open highway with little or no brake application, you can put significantly more miles on an automobile before your brake pads are worn enough to require replacement.
If most of your driving is in stop and go traffic, or pulling heavy loads, your pads will wear much quicker, thus driving far less miles.
That being said, the best way to tell if your pads need replacing is to remove the tires and do a visual inspection. Most pads (other that some after market) have a small light gauge metal :finger%26quot; that extends out from the pad and faces the rotor. This is your %26quot;wear indicator%26quot;. When this %26quot;finger%26quot; is in contact with, or about to contact the rotor it is time to replace the pads.
The best thing to do is to find a reputable tire shop to inspect the pads each time you rotate your tires (which should be about every 3000 miles or so).

I put new brake pads on it at 60,000 Miles, the pads I took off were probably good for 30,000 more miles. I put on metallic composition brake pads.
I have 61,000 miles on them and they still look good for at least that many more miles.
If I was having some other problem with the brake system I would change them, if not keep driving. Check the fluid level and make sure it looks clean and clear.
There is a copper tab on the pads that will %26quot;Squeal%26quot; when they wear to point they need replaced. Even then there will be plenty of pad left.
